Parts of speech

We can distinguish parts of speech into three groups:
  1. Notional parts of speech 
  2. Free parts of speech
  3. Structural parts of speech
Notional parts of speech comprise words denoting things, their qualifies, their actions and states, etc. Nouns, adjectives, pronouns, numerals, verbs and adverbs are notional parts of speech.

Modal words, interjections are free parts of speech. These words do not enter into the structure of the sentences as parts of sentences,

Structural parts of speech have no independent function in the sentences, we use them to connect words and sentences (prepositions and conjunctions) or to specify and emphasize the meaning of words (particles and articles).

MORPHOLOGY

Morphology is the branch of linguistic and deals the parts of speech and their inflexion. For example: the forms of number and case of nouns and pronouns, the degrees of adjective, the forms of tense, etc.

The parts of speech 

According to their meaning syntactical functions and morphological characteristics, words fall into certain classes called parts of speech. 
The following is a classification of the parts of speech in English:
  1. The noun
  2. The adjective
  3. The pronoun 
  4. The numeral 
  5. The verb
  6. The adverb
  7. The prepositions 
  8. The conjunction
  9. The article
  10. Particles
  11. Modal words
  12. Words of affirmation and negation (yes and no)
  13. The interjection
